. >> jared, we have this recent "new york times," cbs poll in which it shows that 36% say the economy is getting better. is one of the democrats' biggest fierce that if governor romney wins he's inheriting an economy on the up swing and would be able to step in and start taking credit for it? >> well, probably one of the democrats' figurest feabiggest simply that romney wins. i have heard this argument. there's something to it. there are very much economic cycles embedded in our economy. and the next president is absolutely going to preside over an improved economy relative to the last four years. that said, i think the important thing there is to look at their different policies and how they might impact not just the economy but also the budget path. and there i think not just democrats but there are legitimate concerns about governor romney's $5 trillion tax cut that he's yet to specify anything like how he's going to pay for it. so economy aside you also have to worry about fiscal health, fiscal rectitude. that's a problem for republicans. >> hey, jj, real quickly, hurricane sandy.

he called in to cbs in new york, and they were able to catch his voice around the country on cbs radio. that is the first time that cronkite was ever heard. the point of this is that cronkite was a serious print reporter. a serious journalist. somebody who covered everything in the united states, and then during world war ii, he was able to cover normandy and the battle of the bulge, and he was at the nuremberg trials and the liberation of europe and all of these things, which gave them gravitas before he went on tv. not just a newsreader, but someone who had the journalistic chops. the thought of 1981 and the fact that cnn had just launched, we were still a country with three nightly newscasts. that's where people got their news. we did not have a great marketplace of choices on cable. we didn't have the internet or twitter, displacing everyone and everything is the as the main source of news. i can't imagine what mr. cronkite would think of the world today he encountered it. i would imagine it would seem very unfamiliar beginning with the fact that many fewer people watch the evening

new cbs news "new york times" poll shows him leading the president on questions of leadership and the economy. that is where the governor is focusing today in a rally that just wrapped up in tampa, telling people what it will take to get past his five-point plan to help grow the economy. >> for those things to happen it will require something that washington talks about but has not done in a long, long time. that is truly reaching across the aisle and finding good democrats and good republicans that will come together and find common ground and work in the interests of the american people, not just in the interests of politics. [cheers and applause] >> reporter: there was a lot of talk about bipartisanship in the speech as there will be here in miami as well. governor romney reminding people of the time he was governor of massachusetts working with a legislature 85% democrat, managing to turn a deficit into a surplus. >> we were able to get to a point where $3 billion budget gap in my first year turned into a 2 billion dollar rainy day fund by the time i left. this can happen. it has
